Second Chance Opportunity to Live
As my family and friends were celebrating and praising God for every hurdle overcome with the most significant physical battle of my life fought, there was still a long way to go. But it was a battle full of hope.
God was going to be battling for me and with me.
The hope of transplant reminded my family of another story when God the Father decided to turn the tragedy of His only Son’s death on the cross and resurrection three days later into hope for anyone who would call on His Name.
It’s a hope for you too.
The Gospel
Journal entry by MW – Jun 8, 2014
I see the gospel more clearly than ever today. If you’re looking for a reason as to why this is happening, here it is. This is the Gospel; the good news. At just the right time, while we were still sinners, Christ died to reconcile us to Himself. Romans 5:6
Someone had to die for my mom to live, it’s as simple as that. We can’t miss this point – Jesus Christ willingly gave his life to purchase new life for believers…while we were still sinners, completely unworthy of a “transplant.” Jesus knew full well that, in ourselves, we could never honor that sacrifice, but that didn’t stop Him. Because of His great love He gave Himself for us. My mom will use her life to shout His praise from the rooftops, and so will we. John 3:16
If you trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, tell this story. If you don’t, pray to receive His gracious transplant and live.

No matter what you’ve done or what’s happened to you. God wants you to be a part of His family.
I still can’t get over it. I have no idea how the decision happened. Perhaps my anonymous donor checked an organ donation box on the back of their driver’s license. Or, after the fact, their grieving family chose to turn an overwhelming tragedy into a life-giving opportunity. It was a priceless gift to my family and me.
I received a second chance. Why?
I’ve thought about that a lot over the last seven years. And I’ll I can say is God only knows and I’m beginning to see what He’s been up to recently, but I didn’t have any idea back then. Shame didn’t want me to talk. It didn’t want me to be courageous or curious. It didn’t want me to dream or inspire others; it wanted my silence. But God had other plans for me, I am sure of that, or I wouldn’t be here today. So even with the mess-ups and mistakes, God decided He wanted to use all of it for His glory. He wanted every messy part of me.
And God wants you too, no matter what’s happened in your life. He has a plan for you too. He isn’t afraid of your mess. So I’m confident, even if you aren’t. I’ll claim the promise and believe on your behalf.
Ask God right now to give you the faith to believe it’s true.
